CHAPTER 2 - WORKING WITH THE ENERGY OF A SINGLE CARD

Hello and welcome to this week's episode of The Quiet Ground.

This week, I'd like to talk about the power of a single card. I think a lot of the time when we think of tarot, we think of learning the meaning of every card and the spread that will pinpoint the exact issue or solution that we are dealing with. However, in my experience, there's a lot to be said. for pulling a single card.

However, that does not mean pulling a different card every single day. Each card of the Major and Minor Arcana hold a wealth of symbols and meaning and ideas and direction and knowledge. And I don't think that all of that energy within that card, within that spirit of that card, can help you in a short 24-hour period. And there should be no rush to that lesson, whether it's a week, a month, or a few months.

Sometimes you can look at something on a different occasion and learn something completely different because a conversation or something has happened and suddenly the path or the threads within the card become really clear. A colour that was meaningless yesterday suddenly will hold some significance today. Or perhaps the expression of the figure or the pose of an animal or the sky if the sky is in your tarot deck at all. A cloud, a ray of sunshine, a piece of clothing, something a figure is holding. Weather. Song, maybe somebody's singing in the card and suddenly you can hear what that song's about.

Now if all this sounds a little too woo-woo for you, I urge you to try it. to pick a card, a single card at random from your deck, and just leave it somewhere you can see it. I used to stick mine on the fridge with a magnet, but you could put it on a desk, you could leave it on a bedside, you could put it on a mirror somewhere, maybe beside your car keys. Just somewhere where you can see it. And don't spend hours looking at it. Just acknowledge its presence. that that's the card that has picked you and you've picked it and just ask it to talk to you. And I think when you get into the habit of doing this sort of exercise, you know when you've learnt all you can from a card and you say thank you and you put it back in the deck.

And I think as well, it's a great exercise to help you work with your own intuition. To learn to go, okay, is that really what I'm seeing? Or do I need to listen a little closer or look a little deeper as to what the card's energy is trying to tell me? The trick is, to do it without forcing or without rushing. And that's why I say, work with a card for as long as you need to in order to fully understand its energy and what it's trying to tell you about the situation that's causing you to work with cards in the 1st place.

Don't think you always have to pick 20 cards or stick to specific spreads. I'll talk more about this in later voice notes. But for now, for this week, pick a single card at random and let its energy work with you to find some solutions to those questions.
